ASD 1:1 High Level Teaching Assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced High Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) / ASD Tutor/Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and a commitment to providing high-quality educational support.


  • Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to students with ASD, focusing on academic, social, and life skills development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other educational professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with ASD.
  • Utilize evidence-based strategies and interventions to support the learning and development of students with ASD.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters the social and emotional well-being of students.
  • Monitor and track student progress, and communicate regularly with parents/guardians and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour support as needed.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to supporting students with ASD.


  • HLTA qualification or equivalent experience working in a similar role.
  • Experience working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with individuals with special needs.
  • Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students with ASD.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
  • The successful candidate will be confident with the engagement model using it for pupils who are:
  • Working below the standard of the National Curriculum assessments, and
  • Not engaged in subject-specific study at Key Stage (KS) 1 and KS2 (you can use it for pupils in KS3 onwards, but you’re not required to) use the pre-Key Stage 1 and pre-Key Stage 2 standards to assess pupils who are working below the standard of the National Curriculum assessments but who are engaged in subject-specific study.
