Demand for bricklayers, joiners and site managers in the construction industry grows

The demand for construction and engineering workers has increased across the country, creating more job opportunities in the sector.

Building companies are struggling to recruit bricklayers, joiners and site managers particularly in London, East England, West Midlands and Northern Ireland, a survey by the Federation of Master Builders has found.

This is encouraging news for contractors in the industry as well as young people who are considering which career path to take, and opens up excellent salary prospects for those who decide to enter the construction industry.

The Federation is asking the Government to make more apprenticeships available to encourage more school leavers to enter the sector.

David Lewis, Group Managing Director of Integra People, said: “This is a good time for young people who are considering their next career move to seriously think about learning a valuable skill such as bricklaying, plumbing or carpentry. The recruitment industry is showing a demand for these skilled workers.”

Other areas showing a need for workers include the IT, medical and accountancy sectors.
